Stephen Cook studied at Hornsey College of Art and at Goldsmiths College. His professional career has been spent in the field of Adult Art Education.
For a number of years his work sought to convey the colour, movement and dynamism of the horseracing scene and he regularly exhibited with the Society of Equestrian Artists in London and Newmarket.

Stephen is now focused on the subject of specific still life in order to try and capture the essence of surface quality and organic structure in natural forms. The myriad interlocking shapes of dried leaves or flower heads in a state of graceful decay have elements of abstraction that he finds visually compelling. As a result of this new direction in his work Stephen now exhibits on a regular basis with The Society of Botanical Artists.

He has also developed a passion for the observation and realistic depiction of wildlife, especially birds.

Stephen works mostly in oils, a medium that encourages a measured and meticulous approach essential to ensure the high level of detail required in the finished piece. His main aim is to achieve a quality of enhanced reality in his paintings so as to promote sensations of calm, serenity, harmony and balance.
